We're all being encouraged to ask ourselves if we would know how to spot the signs of mental distress.

Mind in Middlesbrough want more people to sign up to their Mental Health First Aid course.

It helps people to recognise the signs of common mental health issues and how to help thoughs who could be experiencing problems.

One in every four people will experience mental health difficulties in some form during their lifetimes.

Emma Power from Mind in Middlesbrough thinks early intervention is key: "It can really help the chances of someone's recovery or stop it from escalating into something that could become more serious."

"We would compare the need for Mental Health First Aid course to the same kind of effort that's being placed into physical health awareness."

Since July 2008, over 1500 people have received the training.

A taster of the course is being held at Durham County Cricket Ground on December 4th, for more information click here.
