The head of the army says the ‘job is done' in Basra.

Speaking exclusively to Smooth Radio, General Sir Richard Dannatt said in the last 12 to 18 months, ‘things have moved on' and described Iraq's second city as ‘pretty peaceful'.

The move comes after nearly six years of British occupation in Iraq, during which more than 170 soldiers have died. The UK's 4,100 troops are expected to leave Iraq by the summer.
