Dave's choices

“When the stars go blue” – Tim McGraw…. Brian Clough will be proud of me – I love New Country. Tim’s version of “Please remember me” is on there as well, the only problem being it moves me to tears so I have to lie face-down on the towel so no-one can see. Lonestar’s “Amazed” and Burning Daylight’s “A love worth fighting for” are permanently on there too.
“Rock me” – Abba….. and about twenty other Abba songs….I just love their music – the stunning production, the subtle chromatic harmonies and the emotion that’s jam-packed into every song, even the faster ones. “Rock me” is just perfect pop and should always have been a single – in my mobile disco days, we used this for the barn dance! Other Abba songs on there? About half the back-catalogue – “SOS”, “My love, my life”, “One of us”, “That’s me”…. and several Agnetha and Frida solo songs too.
“I’ll never find another you” – Billy Fury….. Love a bit of Billy. Remember a song called “Love or money” he released not long before we lost him? Great single, that’s on as well.
“And I love her” – The Beatles ……the Fab Four were always under-rated as balladeers and for me this is one of their finest moments. Other pleasing treats for the lug-holes include “You’ve got to hide your love away” and “Girl” .
“747 Strangers in the night” – Saxon ….. shocked you, eh? Brilliantly powerful pop, passionate and superbly crafted. Likewise Ian Gillan’s “Nightmare” and “East River” from The Brecker Brothers.
“In the evening” – Cheryl Lee Ralphs…… Oh joy! Classic disco that lifts you to a different level and brings back memories of a special time in my life – likewise, many tracks from the “Record Shack” label (God bless you, Ian Levine), The Boytstown Gang’s version of “Can’t take my eyes off you” and (sorry about this) Sinitta. These days I apparently dance “like an uncle at a wedding”……..
“Halfway home” – Maureen McGovern….. Very special to me - another “hide the eyes” one on the beach. A truly gifted singer / songwriter who never achieved her potential in terms of chart success, apart from the novelty hit “The continental” . Other superb songs from her on the old Mp3 include “A very special love” and “We can have it all.
