Tom, I hand painted my first car sky blue it cost me £50, I used to touch two wires together to start the next one until a friend fitted a button to do it (you pay extra for that now) and one of my cars after that had a poor hand brake so I carried a brick to wedge behind a wheel, my wife bought me a £50 Cortina estate which i drove around for a year as transport for a bands pa! In 1985 I had a Skoda it passed its mot on a Saturday & on the Tuesday I was driving home from work & all of a sudden the driver’s side front end hit the road… The wheel had came off it hit a Renault traveling towards me the Renault was written off! Alec South Shields
Tom, My 1st car was a mustard coloured minivan that I painted postman pat red & my passengers in the back had to sit on a brown bean bag! Happy days. Bon from winlaton.

My husband and I go to a bar in Turkey when on holiday and the owner’s first car was so bad it had a 2 litre plastic pop bottle fitted for a petrol tank. Margy in Jarrow.
My uncle used to have a mini bus taxi, every time you set off in it the seats would all go back over apart from the drivers, every time we went on a job my cousins and I would look for the coins that would have come out of the pockets, Shirl in Felling.
Myself and hubby had a soft top Volvo. Going down a19 top blew off landed 50 meter behind with lorries running over it. Laughing still this happened 20 years ago.
Hello. With regard to old cars I had an old MK2 escort van. Every time a hole in the body appeared I used to fill it with chewed chewing gum and paint with anything I found. Tom Hartlepool.
Hi tom back in the day my sister bought a Ford Capri, she was told to cover the engine with a blanket to protect against the cold & yes you guessed it 3 days later she forgot to remove it set off to go to work one day got about 3 miles smoke pouring in through the vents & flames about a foot high from the bonnet.
Hi tom my Mam passed her test later in life and my dad bought her a mini 4 her 1st car we had 2 bail the water out every morning after it rained. one morning she took me 2 work in it and it broke down on the main road an I had 2 get out an push it, well u can imagine how shocked I was being just 16 at the time an hoping no one saw me. The funny thing is the thing got stolen 3 times My Mam said they keep bringing the bloody thing back. Suzanne north shields.
